During the 2016-2017 summer school holidays, Georgina was invited by Darebin City Council to facilitate the NGV Kids on Tour program held at the historic Bundoora Homestead. The National Gallery of Victoria partnered with venues across Victoria to offer exciting school holiday workshops for children as part of NGV Kids on Tour 2017. Through activities developed with artists, children were encouraged to unleash their creativity by taking inspiration from coinciding summer exhibitions at the NGV including, The Atelier: Viktor&Rolf for Kids and John Olsen: The You Beaut Country. Georgina Humphries worked collaboratively with Aidan Bryant to deliver these workshops.
John Olsen Painting Collaborations: For Kids on Tour, John Olsen created an activity sheet featuring details from one of his Australian landscapes paintings. Children were invited to respond to the image and complete it with their own imaginative painting techniques, including dot painting, splatter and traditional brush strokes. The younger groups aged 2-4 years old were also given the opportunity to work on a large collaborative floor painting which utilised giant brushes, sponges and water to create a large scale abstract artwork.
Viktor&Rolf Collars and Cuffs: This activity was inspired by the white linen collars and large cuffs that were the height of fashion in the Netherlands hundreds of years ago and a key feature of fashion artist Viktor & Rolf collections. With a range of paper products, including white crepe paper and strands of raffia, children were given free range to create their own sculptural outfits.
Dachshund Designs: Following on the fashion theme, in this activity, children used a Viktor&Rolf template to design creative outfits for Little Swan (Viktor & Rolf’s dog). Using coloured paper and confetti, children made unique collages that began as a staring point for their Collar and Cuff designed above. We used a range of techniques and tools to produce our vibrant outfits for Little Swan.
